Bothy Culture Ceilidh , Architecture Fringe 2019

An event curated for the Archictecture Fringe 2019. A night of music, short talks, poetry, stories and song in celebration of bothy culture, hosted by the local community ceilidh band.

The bothy has always been a site and source of conviviality, connection and creativity - the sharing of news, stories, music and song that is at the heart of the traditional cèilidh gathering. From the folklore of the shielings and shepherd’s huts of the past to the mountain bothies and revitalisation of hutting today, the symbol of the bothy embodies a world of meaning with potential to take on new significance and possibility.

Line up:

  • Talk: 'Bothy Adventures' with Calum MacLean Calum is is a filmmaker and photographer and has made programmes for BBC Alba on his adventures wild swimming, foraging, climbing as well as many other things!

  • Fiddle & Piano from Sally Simpson & Catriona Hawksworth - Sally and Catriona are two of Scotland's top young traditional musicians. They play together in a duo and in the vibrant six piece band Heisk!
